UCWLC News
We hope that everybody has had a wonderful summer break and that you are ready to get back into the swing of things as we begin a new liturgical year. After an executive meeting on Aug. 27, we have the following announcements:
Meeting
Because of the parish picnic on Sept. 9, we have rescheduled our meeting to Monday, Sept. 17 beginning with rosary at 6:30 followed by a meeting, chaired by Bernie Mandrusiak at 7:00. Please contact Bernie if you have an item for the agenda.
Scholarships:
St. Nicholas UCWLC provides scholarships to students in Gr. 9 and 12 who have attained honours (80%). Parents must be parishioners of St. Nicholas. If you know of any students eligible to receive a scholarship please contact Eleanor Busko at 780-464-6360. Scholarships will be presented at St. Nicholas Day in December.
Liturgy for the deceased
On November 4th, the UCWLC will sponsor a Panahyda Service for any parishioners who have lost a family member since May 2018. Currently we have Martha Filipchuk’s son-in-law; Sophie Werbitski; Rena Hanchuk’s Father – Edward Hanchuk; Father Julian’s Baba; the late Bill Orfino’s nephew (John Orfino) and Brother (name); and Jayne Buryn. If there are any other names to be added, please contact Eleanor Busko at 780-464-6360.
Cabbage Prep convenor in training:
Lillian Panylyk has been in charge of cabbage preparation for many years and we are most grateful for all her work. However, she would like to pass the job on to someone younger. It is about a 10 hour commitment over two days to organize the coring and blanching. There is a binder of previous reports and Lil would be happy to do the training. Please contact Barb Olynyk 780 722 3537.
